Terms of Service
These terms explain your responsibilities and ours when you use Legal Answering Pro, including billing, call handling and caller information. Read them before signing up, then try the browser demo to assess the receptionist for your firm.

The service and its operator
Legal Answering Pro is an AI receptionist service operated by TypeScience, trading as Legal Answering Pro. These terms govern your use of our website, demo and subscription service. The governing law is the law of California.
We provide the service to businesses that configure it to answer their calls. You are responsible for the instructions and information you give your receptionist and for supervising its use within your firm. Read these terms alongside our privacy policy for details about personal information.
Your account and setup
You start through an email sign-in link and an onboarding chat with the AI. The receptionist learns from your answers and the website content you provide. Setup covers your services, service area, hours, intake questions, fee policy and urgent-call instructions.
You are responsible for keeping this information accurate as your practice changes. Give clear instructions about matters you accept, matters you decline and who should receive urgent calls. Use the test call before going live to check the greeting, intake sequence and routing against your firm's requirements.
Call forwarding and coverage
Your receptionist answers day and night once your business calls forward to it. You choose whether to forward all calls or only calls that are unanswered, arrive while your line is busy, or come outside your office hours. We provide a local number and a forwarding guide for your carrier or phone system.
Coverage depends on calls reaching that number through your forwarding setup. Keep a backup way for callers to reach your firm, and review the routing when you change your phone system. A plan lapse sends incoming calls to the backup number or voicemail.
Subscription charges and included minutes
The subscription costs $349 per month and includes 500 AI minutes. Additional usage costs $0.20 per extra minute, with overage minutes billed monthly. Your subscription runs month to month and renews monthly until you cancel online.
Review usage in your dashboard when assessing whether the service suits your call volume. Your plan's included minutes and extra-minute rate determine the charges for usage. Billing is handled by our payment processor, and we do not store full payment card numbers.
Free trial and conversion
Your free trial allows up to 100 minutes of use over 14 days. A payment card is required before call forwarding goes live. The trial converts to a paid subscription only with a card on file, and we send a reminder email two days before conversion.
Request a free trial to assess intake questions, message quality and urgent-call routing with your firm's own instructions. You can also try the browser demo without signing up. Demo calls and chats are recorded and transcribed so you can see the result.
Cancellation and plan lapse
You can cancel your subscription online in one click. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid month. Until then, review your forwarding and backup arrangements so they reflect how you want incoming calls handled.
A lapsed plan routes calls to your backup number or voicemail. Transcripts and summaries are deleted within 30 days of account closure or on request. Keep the call information your firm needs before closing the account, and contact us with questions about deletion.
Intake and legal advice limits
Your receptionist collects intake information and takes messages; it does not give legal advice. It does not evaluate a case, say that a caller has a case, answer questions about legal deadlines or statutes of limitations, or promise an outcome. It quotes fees only when your firm has supplied the fee information.
The receptionist tells callers that the call does not create an attorney-client relationship. When a caller needs legal judgment, its response is: an attorney will review this and get back to you. Your firm remains responsible for reviewing the information and deciding how to respond.
Conflict screening and consultations
Intake begins with parties' names before the receptionist requests matter details. Your firm sets the information needed for its conflict review and supervises that process. Collecting names is an intake step, and your firm makes the conflict decision before proceeding with the matter.
The receptionist can book consultations into Google Calendar or gather details for your callback. A booked consultation does not change the service's limits on advice, case assessment or representation. Review your scheduling instructions and the information collected before the appointment so the attorney can prepare for the conversation.
Urgent matters and emergency limits
The receptionist follows your firm's urgency rules and routing order. For an urgent matter, such as an arrest, court that day or a protective order, it can warm transfer the caller to your on-call person or page them. During a warm transfer, the recipient hears a short summary and presses 1 to accept.
The service is not an emergency service or a replacement for 911. For a gas smell, a CO alarm, sparks or burning smells, or flooding near electricity, its safety script tells the caller to get everyone out and call 911 or the utility from outside. For a fire, it says: "Get everyone out first, then call 911 from outside." For a medical emergency or anyone in danger, it tells the caller to hang up and call 911 right now. It then alerts your firm. Keep your on-call contacts and backup arrangements current.
AI disclosure, recording and messages
The greeting identifies the receptionist as a virtual assistant and includes a recording notice on every call. These notices cannot be switched off. Firms can choose a no-recording option, and your firm is responsible for its greeting, recording choices and policies.
We send call alerts through email and app push notifications, with a summary, urgency tag, transcript and recording when recording is enabled. We also send a daily digest email. Your dashboard provides access to call information, usage and settings; you can change settings by telling the AI in plain words.
Your review and supervision
AI can make mistakes, so you must review summaries and keep a backup way to be reached. Check information that affects your response to a prospective or existing client. Your firm retains responsibility for advice, representation decisions and any action taken after a call.
Use your supervision to keep intake requests limited to the facts your firm needs. Update instructions when an attorney's availability, consultation policy or accepted practice areas change. An automated summary helps you review a conversation, but the attorney must make the legal judgments it raises.
Website chat and lead follow-up
Website chat is an add-on that uses the same business knowledge and rules on your site. Lead follow-up is a separate add-on for people who submit your web form and tick a consent box naming your business. You are responsible for the consent records for those follow-up calls.
Follow-up calls are made within about a minute, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the recipient's time zone. The service makes one attempt plus one retry and honors opt-outs at once. Cold calls, list dialing and purchased leads are not offered.
Account information and caller data
We collect account details, onboarding answers and website content you direct us to use. Call processing involves caller numbers, audio, recordings where enabled, transcripts and summaries. Website analytics include privacy-friendly analytics and Google Analytics, which uses cookies.
For information about callers to your business, your firm decides what is collected and why. We process that information on your behalf, and these terms include that data processing arrangement. Caller information is isolated by firm; we do not sell personal information or use callers' data for our own marketing.
Calls, website and demo chats, recordings, transcripts and summaries of trial and customer accounts may be reviewed by authorized staff for quality, support and abuse prevention. Access is limited to those purposes; reviewers keep what they see confidential and use it only for those purposes.
Service providers and retention
We use providers for hosting and storage, telephone service, AI voice and text processing, payments, email delivery and analytics. By default, our API data is excluded from OpenAI's model training. These providers support delivery of the service described in these terms.
Recordings are kept for your chosen period of 30 or 90 days, then deleted; you can choose no recording. Transcripts and summaries are retained while your account is open and deleted within 30 days after it closes or on request. Direct access, correction, deletion and opt-out requests to privacy@legalansweringpro.com; callers can contact your firm or us.
Acceptable use and suspension
You may not use the service for illegal activity, cold calling, robocalling, impersonation or harassment. Healthcare use involving protected health information is not permitted. We may suspend service for abuse.
Your firm is responsible for the policies and information it supplies to the AI, including any instructions used for follow-up. Keep those instructions consistent with the service's intake and consent limits. The website and service are not intended for children under 13.
Service limitations and liability
The service is provided as is, and AI responses and summaries can contain mistakes. Our liability is capped at the fees you paid in the prior 12 months. Review call information and maintain a backup way to be reached as part of your firm's use of the service.
Changes and contact
We notify you of changes to these terms by email. The date at the top identifies when this version was last updated. Review notices so your account settings and firm procedures remain consistent with the terms that apply to your use.
